Today we’re talking about 6 Vitamins every woman should consider taking. This post is sponsored by CRN in conjunction with the Mom it Forward Network, all the opinions are 100% mine. This is my honest-to-goodness true life story.
Let’s get real for a minute… I try to keep my posts pretty positive, because I don’t like to be a Debby Downer. I visit blogs for happy inspiring posts, so I assume you like to do the same! With that said, I want to talk a minute about how CRAPPY I have felt for the last few years… positivity coming soon…keep reading!
About a year after I had my 3rd baby, things were pretty stressful for me. I had just started watching my friend’s 3 kids every day, in addition to a newborn and my own three kids…I don’t know what I was thinking!
In addition to that; this blog was created, I was the presidents of the Young Women’s group in my church, and I was teaching dance, cheerleading and musical theater. And for some crazy reason, I also thought that this BUSY time in my life would also be a great time to start whipping my chubby post-pregnancy butt into shape, so I did a boot camp every morning at 5 AM…
I was tired…SUPER TIRED!
I was eating right, getting lots of veggies and fruits. I even sent every picture of every meal I ate to my trainer. Guess what!? The scale WOULD. NOT. MOVE! And to top things off, I didn’t like myself very much. I was GRUMPY! Looking back now, I can see that I was a little depressed and very stressed. Not a good combo.
Finally, I went to see a doctor. I just knew something was off with my body. I have hypothyroidism, and it’s always been challenge to get my blood levels back in check after I have a baby, but this time it was different. I knew there was something else going on.
The doctor ordered a whole list of tests and when the results came back, she told me I had a Vitamin D deficiency! Apparently doctors don’t usually check for this unless you ask for it, because it can be pretty pricey. Who knew?!
Anyway, the doctor suggested I start taking Vitamin D, probiotics, calcium, B12, Biotin and Magnesium in addition to my prenatal vitamin every day, and joked, “Even if you sit in the sun, stark naked, every day at noon, you’re not going to get the amount of Vitamin D you need to feel good and get your levels back to where they need to be. SO you NEED to take these vitamins every day!”
I listened! I started taking all the vitamins she suggested EVERY day, and guess what! I started feeling SO much better! SO MUCH BETTER! I realized that even if you’re eating healthy and being active, there are still some nutritional gaps that diet alone doesn’t always take care of and there might still be some vitamins and minerals your body needs! Go figure!
I’m not saying that vitamins and minerals are a cure-all. I was still stressed, but I wasn’t feeling so depressed anymore and I was able to handle my stress better. The energy I had made me feel like my old self again! I felt refreshed when I woke up in the morning and I actually had the energy I needed to get through the day!
Fast forward, 3 or so years. I had my 4th baby and for some stupid reason, after I had the baby, I got out of the habit of taking my vitamins. WHY?!?! I started getting grumpy and sad again. I didn’t even realize what I was missing until my husband asked if I was still taking my vitamins…NO, no I wasn’t.
I started up again and I’m not kidding when I say that after a few weeks I was starting to feel like my perky happy self again!
Lesson learned! I will never stop my vitamin regimen ever again!
Here’s a list of what I take every day, in addition to my multivitamin. Talk to your doctor about what vitamins you could benefit from taking.
I’m not a doctor, so you’ll want to check out this link for yourself! CRNUSA.org provides you with the Science Behind the Supplements and is a trusted resource for dietary supplement and dietary ingredient manufacturers.
No two vitamins are created equal! In addition to asking your doctor what vitamins you need to be taking, ask your doctor what brand they recommend!!
My New Years Resolution is to be healthier this year…like almost every year. But, this time I’m not just tackling my weight. I want to be HEALTHY, not just skinny!
